5 July 1886 - March 7, 1984 Grace was born July 5, 1886 in Mead, Nebraska to Thomas and Mary Ann Kane Ostenberg, a pioneer family in Mead. She had 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Two of her sisters lived in Houston, Texas. |

From "Mead Centennial, 1877-1977": Thomas, 9th child of Charles and Caroline Julliette Ostenberg came to Mead, Nebraska in 1877 from Blue Mound, Wisconsin with his parents. He built the first grain elevator in Mead in 1877 and in 1885 became founder of the first bank in Mead. Family home was built up the hill from the grocery store. After church was built, the Ostenberg home was the gathering place for Catholics. Farm at west edge of town used a pasture for nayone who had a cow and all would gather there morning and evening for milking. Ostenberg children: Minnie (1884), Lydia (1885), Grace (1886), Teresa (Tress) (1889), Stella (1890), Frank (1890), Dorothy (1894). |
| Grace received her early education in Mead and graduated from High School in 1903. Grace Genevieve Ostenberg was one of 11 graduates. Among the members of the Board of Education were Thomas Ostenberg (her father) and H. Ostenberg (her uncle). |

Then she spent 1 year in St. Frances Academy and on to 3 years at University of Nebraska. In 1908 she received a Life Time Certificate from Peru Normal School in Education. Grace then taught school in Leshara, Nebraska, where she met and married Frank Simon Feuerstein. At the time, he owned a mercantiale Store in Leshara - a small community where his family farmed. In 1917, the Feuersteins moved with their two small daughters, Helen and Kathleen (Kap) to Idaho Falls where Frank beceame affiliated with the East Side Lumber Comapny. The couple had another daughter, Mary Anne, and 2 sons, Charles Francis and Thomas. Grace enjoyed being active in Music Club, Community Concert, Red Cross and A.A.U.W. They were members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Grace served as President of the Catholic Womens League at one time. Her hobbies included Music, Landscape Painting, and Bridge. Grace spent the final years of her life in a Nursing Home in Idaho Falls near her daughter Helen. She died in March 1984, age 97 years, 8 months.
Obituary Notice in Idaho Falls Newspaper: Grace Feuerstein Grace Genevieve Ostenberg Feuerstein, 97, a former school teacher, died March 7, 1984, at an Idaho Falls nursing home. She was very active in community affairs including community concerts, and the Red Cross. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church and served as president of the Catholic Women's League. She was born July 5, 1886, at Mead, Neb., to Thomas and Mary Kane Ostenberg. She received her early education at Mead and gradu- ated from high school there in 1903. She then went to St. Francis Acad- emy and also spent three years at the University of Nebraska. She received a degree in education from the Peru Normal School in 1908. She taught school for a few years in Leshara, Neb., where she met and married Frank S. Feuerstein. In 1917, they moved to Idaho Falls where he was affiliated with the East Side Lumber Company for many years. She is survived by two sons, Tom Feuerstein, Aberdeen, Wash., and Charles Feuerstein of Vancouver, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Stewart, Idaho Falls, Mrs. Lloyd (Mary Anne) Brown, Boise, and Mrs. Andrew (Kathleen) Young, Shelley; 22 $randchildren and 34 great-grandchlldren; and one sister, Stella Burke, Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be Saturday at II a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Father Robert Grant will officiate. Recitation of the Rosary will be Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Mominglight Chapel at Buck-Sullivan Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. |
