Persons of Italian Ancestory ...

Persons of Italian ancestory have made an enormous contribution to Pocatello's 

development, particularly through emplyment at Union Pacific Railroad shops and 

other departments.



Sam Guido, 429 North Eighth, came here in 1906 at age 16 from San Piedro, Italy, 

and now is retired from the UPRR.



Mr. Guido has a good memory and recently began putting down names of Italian 

men who came to Pocatello, worked and lived here and now are dead.  His list of 

99 names probably is not complete, Mr. Guido says, and they are in no particular 

order.  He wrote down the names as he happened to recall them, with some first 

names omitted.



About 75 percent of the men became naturalized American citizens and he worked 

with many of them and associated with them in the Christopher Columbus lodge.  

He did not list anyone born here.
