Fencing the Miracles

(PISA, Italia, 25 May 2004)
ANSA Italian News Agency

The work of fencing that will surround Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa has been initiated today. The area that encompasses the Leaning Tower, baptistery, Cathedral and Monumental Cemetery will be closed in the nighttime hours, by a series of fences that will prevent approach to the monuments and will only allow viewing from a distance.

The expense is about 250,000 Euro that also includes a new system of videosurveillance by hidden television cameras, already active for several days. The fencing will be two meters tall. It will replace the old, often criticized, barriers that were positioned in the nighttime hours at the border of the meadow and stacked at the sides during the day
