The Tower of Pisa Anti-Impotence? Quarrel in Iran

Yahoo Notizie Italia (PISA, Italia, Sunday 14 July 2002, 15: 05)

TEHERAN- The tower of Pisa and its "inclination" were convicted, earning a place of notoriety even among the religious problems that haunt Iran. An advertising agency is guilty, one that has decided to use the image of the celebrated Tuscan tower, to advertise a product destined to resolve the problems of male impotence.

A cartoon in fact, appeared in one of the principal Iranian government daily newspapers, showing a dwarf trying to "straighten" the tower, and on the side the slogan of the incriminated product.

A cartoon that, for a second conservative daily paper, the Jomhuri Eslami, appears too explicit not to offend the laws of the Koran. Not the case, the daily paper today wonders, as it could happen that the incriminated cartoon has received the permission for publication from the rigid Iranian censorship. An oversight, perhaps.

The possibility remains open however that the rigorous Iranian customs, are being diluted in the face of "incursions" of Western consumerism. Not by chance, the use of slogans and female images always seem to grow . Even yesterday, in a daily paper, a microwave oven was advertised thanks to a sketch (but not a photo) of a woman, (neck and hair covered according to the Islamic rules, but attractive in a beautiful pose) that promised, with the acquisition of the appliance, a series of complimentary female makeups.
