Almost 2,000 people in Three Days on the Bell Tower
The Tower of Santa Maria is also Taking an Assault from Tourists. Soon Tickets may be Acquired by Internet PISA. There is major traffic in Piazza of the Cathedral during the Easter festivities. Naturally, all the reservations for the leaning Tower have been exhausted, celebrating the first Easter with the public after the closing January 7, 1990. On March 30, 540 visitors have been accompanied by custodians on the famous bell tower; the 31st, Easter, 620; and for the day of Pasquetta, Monday after Easter, 640. Concerning the acquisition of tickets, there is important news. Starting next Monday, in fact, the Box Office at the Work of the Primaziale will begin selling tickets to the Tower to be used within fifteen days following the acquisition. By next June, it will also be possible to acquire the tickets through the website www.opapisa.it. The use of the internet was announced previously by the president of the Work of the Pisan Primaziale, Pierfrancesco Pacini. This new form will allow service to facilitate the visit to the monument of Bonanno Pisano. Meanwhile, as always in the days of Easter, many visitors have crossed the thresholds of the three monuments, cathedral, old Cemetery and baptistery and the two museums. Traffic has been: March 30 10,363; Easter Sunday, 11,056, while in the day of Pasquetta the total entries have been 9,810. Regarding the Tower of Santa Maria, entries from 25 to 31 March have been about 2,500. The Summer schedule (April to September) effected for visiting the monuments is as follows: For tower, baptistery, cemetery, museums of the Sinopie: 8:00 AM to 7:30PM Museum of the Work: 8:00 AM to 7:20 PM Cathedral: 10:00 AM - 7.30 PM, except festival days 13-19.30 to allow for services; Tower of Santa Maria: Through June: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM July and August: 8:00 AM to 7:30PM September and October: 10:00 AM to 6:00PM
