Washed in pink light this year for the prevention of the cancer The Tower is among the pink lights of the world Sunday 30 September 2001 r.p. PISA. In the first ten evenings of October, cities all over the world will unite with Evelyn Lauder, president of the firms Estée Lauder and of the Women's Foundation for Research on Breast Cancer, in the event Red Light in the World: the illumination with pink light of about 200 of the most meaningful monuments and natural beauties of the planet, an ideal inauguration for the campaign Red Ribbon for the prevention of breast cancer. In Italy this year the country has found, in the monthly Marie Claire (Mondadori), extraordinary publishing support. The Opa (Pisan Work of the Primaziale) has again agreed to the illumination of the Tower that will be washed in pink light next Wednesday night, 3 October, through the design of the So.l.e society - experts in artistic illumination from Group Enel. The event, of special visual impact, inserts Pisa in the bright planetary circuit desired by Mrs Lauder, for which the Red Ribbon is recognized as the world symbol of the struggle against this illness. "We wanted to do something special to aim the spotlight on breast cancer, an illness that strikes one in eight women in the United States, and higher percentages in other countries", said Mrs Lauder. In New York, the illumination of theEmpire State Building, in time for the program, has been definitely confirmed, despite the recent tragedy of the Twin Towers. Likewise, for this year, most well-known skyscrapers of the world will catch fire tomorrow evening, 1 October, spreading the pink light of hope throughout the world, in a significant chain of positive wishes. For ten years Evelyn Lauder and the firms of the Estée Lauder group have been active in the world to raise the awareness of women to the risks of breast cancer. In 1993, Mrs. Lauder founded the non-profit organization Three breast cancer research foundation, that has the assignment to heavily research the disease. Thousands of pink ribbons, the symbol of the campaign of prevention and scientific-informative leaflets are distributed free in the Estée Lauder shops during each month of October. In Italy the campaign Nastro Rosa (Red Ribbon) has been developed, debuted in 1994, in partnership with the Italian League for the struggle against Cancer. Participants in the initiative of the Italian League are: Marie Clair (Mondadori), Mariella Burani, Yahoo! Italy, Modaonline.it, Estée Lauder, Clinique, Aramis and Bobbi Brown |
