Plan for Material Restoration of the Tower

In a Conference, a plan was presented for the next phases of the restoration for 9 billion lire

PISA. The Tower, now resolved of her "health" problems, is ready to become beautiful. In the last years, the Tower has been relieved of the problems that torment her. After her redelivery to the city, and in wait (December 15) for the reopening to the public, yesterday at the Toniolo auditorium of Piazza Arcivescovado there occurs a day of study on "The Tower of Pisa: the workyard and the plan for restoration of the materials".

The chemical-physics investigations on the materials have uncovered a level of serious breakdown of the marbles with obvious separation of fragments and black encrustation. From these studies, the plan of restoration that foresees a financial appointment estimated at 4,854,690 euro (equal to 9 billion, 400 million lire) in five years.

The conference has been opened by a salute from president Pierfrancesco Pacini and by an introduction from the coordinator of the Committee Michele Jamiolkowski.

Pacini said he is particularly satisfied by the operation of the Committee, and he has underlined the necessity and the importance of this operation of restoration, that won't affect the usability of the Tower, and that will be underway soon.

At the conference, presided over by Almamaria Mignosi, manager of the Central Institute for the Restoration, Roberto Di Steano, Jean Barthelemy and Michele D' Elia of the Committee for the Tower, have presented their colleagues Gisella Capponi (manager of the workyard for the restoration), Joseph Carluccio (scaffolding laboratory that will be in use), Giovanni Sturaro (interactions with the environment), Sabina Vedovello (operational logisitics for the plan), Ulderico Santamaria (analyses for materials condition) and Umberto Parrini (programmed maintenance).
