The mayor: "The Ronchey decree is penalizing the Piazza dei Miracoli. I have asked for a modification."

PISA. The mayor of Pisa, Paul Fontanelli, has sent a letter last night to the minister of the Cultural Good, Giovanna Melandri, in which he asks to modify the Ronchey decree, because it "penalizes the Piazza dei Miracoli". The intervention by the mayor comes the day after the news was broken by "Il Tirreno", with respect to the risk that the Bocelli concert, Sunday 17 June, part of the two-day celebrations for the reopening of the Tower, may move from the Piazza.

Risk that, at the present moment, is real, in the sense that there is no authority for the superintendent to grant permission.

"The Ronchey decree", explains the superintendent, "speaks clear and does not give the possibility to develop presentations like that in the program. I have learned the news reported yesterday by 'Il Tirreno'", the mayor has said, "with great surprise and amazement. The Ronchey decree absolutely prohibits shows on the piazza for initiatives that have promotional motives. But here is an initiative of special importance, not only for Pisa but for the whole world. In fact after more than ten years of work, the Tower is returned to the patrimony of the humanity, is a subject for celebration. Besides, being the promotional concert for an association like the Harp, a non-profit organization whose purpose is only that of assistance for medical research and healthiness in general, the initiative also is rich in this important connotation of solidarity".

The mayor yesterday has communicated several times with minister Melandri and with the general manager of the office to understand what margins there are to overcome the obstacle. As the rule is structured, the Ronchey decree does not leave hope.

"It is a bit difficult to set down, " the mayor says, "but it needs at least a verification of the law in a way to correct the decree. In fact, as it is possible that a dispensation for Piazza San Marco in Venice is possible, that allows the carrying out of various initiatives like the scheduled one in Pisa, and instead for Piazza dei Miracoli there are greater restrictions? Here it is absolutely necessary to review the decree again. Finally, it is not understood why Piazza dei Miracoli, so often a theater of advertising initiatives and spots, should be prevented from demonstrations of world importance and overall celebration for beneficent completion of the work ".

If the concert, as appears probable, will not unwind in Piazza dei Miracoli, the new location will be the estate of San Rossore.
