The Bocelli concert in Piazza dei Miracoli
May Be in Doubt

The Bocelli concert in Piazza dei Miracoli would be incompatible with the Ronchey decree (is it made for San Rossore?)

For the same reason the festival of the Republic has moved from the Cathedral

Feverish consultations with the superintendent to arrive at an accord

PISA. The concert that would follow the ceremony of reopening the Tower in Piazza dei Miracoli, scheduled for Sunday 17 June, the festival of St. Ranieri, patron of Pisa is in doubt. On the basis of the Ronchey decree, in fact, the benefit scheduled and organized by the Foundation Harp, born of an initiative by professor Mosca, with Andrea Bocelli, Cecilia Gasdia, the Choir of the Academy of S.Cecilia and the Tocanini Orchestra of Parma, could not happen in that zone. It would be an enormous failure for Pisa, after the anticipation of these last months for an event of world renown.

We hope, for the good of all - particularly for our city, but also for the Foundation Harp (a non-profit organization, whose purpose is to raise funds for medical search and healthiness in general) - that they are able to rise above all the obstacles, maybe through an agreed compromies that is less invasive. We will see. Otherwise it would need to find a new setup in another beautiful setting, but with fewer ties, perhaps San Rossore.

In Piazza dei Miracoli, the safety matters of the monuments anticipated by the law are set, that the superintendent must observe.

This is precisely the motive that has prevented the festival of the Republic from Pisa, that must happen, as President Ciampi had asked in person, on the occasion of June 2. Being Livornese, the president had wanted a ceremony somewhere near the place of his youth, and he had proposed the meadow of the Miracles for the festivity, under the Tower that will be redelivered after 11 years of work, with the presentation of Milly Carlucci.

To prevent the dismissal he has made a famous request, that seems in these days a subject of discussion among all organizations who have taken an interest in the reopening of the celeberated bell tower: the Committee for the Safeguard of the Monument, the Work of the Primaziale, the Superintendent of Pisa, the town administration. He is being appraised of the outcome.

Certainly, on the basis of the famous rule in the Piazza dei Miracoli and the Cathedral the expected concert of June 17 for the reopening of the momument (that itself happens on the previous day) and all the other demonstrations, a series of appointments that would have been covered by RAI television and for which WorldVision was discussed (the Tower is in fact a patrimony of humanity), could not be held. We want to hope that, in the end, some way is found to overcome the obstacles, in order for Pisa not to lose a unique and rare occasion.

Thousands of people were expected for the concert of Bocelli; not all obviously would follow the event on the plaza, but thanks to large broadcast screens installed in various city plazas the experience would be available throughout the City. Now, almost two weeks from the scheduled grand events of the 16th and 17th, the affairs must be discussed to find a solution that could put all in accord.
