Liberty Island Opens Again to the Public

Visitors returned to Liberty island today for the first time since the 11 September 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, about 2 miles North on Manhattan island.

Visitors passed through metal detectors before borading the ferry. Packages and backpacks were not allowed. The Statue itself remains closed until at least next year according to the National Park Service.
