Reporter William Neuman reports in the New York Post that discussions are underway for the Brooklyn Bridge to become more of a tourist destination with a bridge climb simlar to one on the Syndey Australia Harbor Bridge. BridgeClimb International is proposing to take adventurous tourists on a climb up the cables and onto one of the bridge's 275-foot-high stone towers. They have the backing of NYC & Company, a private tourist bureau. The NYC Department of Transportation, owner of the Bridge, is considering the proposal. The New York Times reports on Monday that Mayor Bloomberg, who has climbed the Sydney Bridge, is generally supportive. |
